We look forward to seeing all sailors out for this years’ sailing races. Although we expect some Covid-19 restrictions may still be in effect, we believe the races can proceed safely due to sailors maintaining enough physical distance just by being in separate vessels.
The races will be in the north end of the lake, beginning at the new date of 11am on Monday August 2nd, 2021.
As you may know, we are now running two races – the usual Championship race, and a Junior Championship race for our up-and-coming sailors (those under 18).
We shall have to wait and see if it can be possible to have our usual get-together after the races to have some refreshments, and award the trophies, medals and ribbons.
2021 Sailing Race Registration
Volunteers Needed
It would be really great if we could get some assistance with the races. I have been the sole commodore for several consecutive years now, and could use some assistance. As you may know, we are now running two races – the usual Championship race, and a Junior Championship race for our up-and-coming sailors (those under 18). For the last junior race, the winds, though extremely feeble, were in a favourable direction such that I could arrange the two race courses in a way that allowed me to commodore both simultaneously. That may not always be possible, so it would be really great if we could get another volunteer to commodore at least one of the two races. And heck, if we can get two commodores, I would be quite happy to take other available volunteer roles. E.g. Sailors have to go around the buoys/markers of the course, and they have to do it in the proper manner – “buoys to port” or “buoys to starboard.” The commodore cannot always watch all the buoys at all times, and usually at least one of the buoys is quite some distance away. I have been managing using binoculars, but it is not easy. Additional volunteers to monitor the sailors at the buoys would be wonderful.
