A resounding consensus delivered by our stakeholders is the importance of Water Quality to our community's long-term enjoyment and success.
Welcome to the Crane Lake Association! For those who have never visited our little piece of paradise, Crane Lake is located in central Ontario, Canada approximately 15 kilometres (10 miles) south of the town of Parry Sound just east of Georgian Bay. Crane Lake is the last in a series of lakes that flow down the Blackstone River into Georgian Bay. With over 50 miles of shoreline Crane Lake combines the beauty and serenity of large tracts of undeveloped Crown Land with the many activities enjoyed by the close to 200 cottagers located on the lake.
The Crane Lake Association was registered as a non-profit organization in 1968. The Association was constituted for the following objects and purposes:
- to promote the conservation of land, waters, fish and wildlife on Crane Lake;
- to encourage water and fire safety among its members;
- to represent its members in matters of mutual interest pertaining to their lands on Crane lake;
- to encourage and organize social and recreational activities among its members.
We are one of the few cottage associations in Ontario that offer our members fire protection with our fully equipped fire boat and 5 strategically located portable fire pumps. To operate the equipment we have a large group of volunteers as well as a video that gives detailed explanations on the operation of the equipment to all cottagers. In addition to this very vital service we are actively involved in monitoring our water quality and the health and wellbeing of our flora and fauna. The Crane Lake Association is a member of FOCA (Federation of Ontario Cottagers Association) and as such participates in their various programs as is appropriate to our needs.
On the social side we organize an annual regatta on the Civic Holiday Weekend where young and old alike can demonstrate their swimming and canoeing prowess. There is also an annual sailing race where all are encouraged to participate. Our members are kept up to date on these and other events of interest through our Newsletter which is published twice a year, in the winter and spring.
The Crane Lake Association works closely with the Township of the Archipelago to ensure that we maintain the quality of our environment so that we can all enjoy the lake and what it has to offer, both now and for many years to come.
